Getting started

To edit the wiki authorized users need to authenticate by logging into the the wiki directly (link in the bottom right of the footer bar).

This is only a temporary measure while we make sure everything works. Please keep in mind that anyone can request to be set as an editor, just let us know on the forum. Any editor of the wiki will also be given access to edit the map.

How to browse the XsportMap WIKI

In the left hand side there are a few useful tools to get you started, most important is the search box. If you want to find any specific information type it there and hit the “go” button.

If there is an article available it will show up in the search results.

If not you will be given the option to create the page should you wish.

Please note that we will be adding help pages to the wiki over the next few weeks.

Creating a new page

There are three ways to create new page.

1) As mentioned in the previous section it is possible to create a page by first searching for it and clicking the link at the bottom of the page.

2) It is also possible to create a page by first creating a link in another page. For example if you wished to create a page about the kayaking company “pyranha” you may wish to create an internal link to “pyranha” from the “kayaking” page. Any links that show up as yellow within the page are pages that are not yet created. If you would like to add information to the wiki but don't feel competent to write the content yourself consider creating a link and hope someone else will fill in the blanks for you.

3) Finally it is also possible to create a page by adding it directly to the url bar. If you type xsportmap.com/wiki/your_page_name here and click “go” you will be directed to your new page.

Once on your page you need to click the “create” link to begin editing.

Page naming conventions

Company’s

Please name your pages as follows Companyname_(business). So Bobs Kayaks would be created as such “Bobs_Kayaks_(Business)”.

Reviews

If you wish to write a review of any product or service do it on your personal user page under its own level 2 heading.

Athletes

If writing a page about a specific athlete create the page name as so Athlete_name_(Athlete). As an example an athlete page for “Bob Bobbins” would be written as such “Bob_Bobbins_(Athlete)”.

Non xsport pages

Clubs, organisations and societies are free to use the xsportmap wiki for non community content such as trip reports and info pages however please create all pages with this convention clubpage:clubname_pagename. As an example a trip report from city canoe club would be written as such “clubpage:citycc_riverdon.
